Many BMW E46 owners experience clutch slipping. The engine revs increase but the car doesn’t accelerate proportionally, especially noticeable on hills.
Main Causes
- Worn clutch disc – The most common cause.
- Weak pressure plate – Reduces clamping force.
- Damaged flywheel – Causes vibrations and slipping.
- Air in hydraulic system – Affects pedal feel and clutch engagement.
Solutions
- Replace the full clutch kit (disc, pressure plate, release bearing).
- Resurface or replace the flywheel if worn.
- Bleed the hydraulic system and refill with fresh fluid.
