BMW E46 – Clutch Slipping Problem

BMW E46 – Clutch Slipping Problem

Many BMW E46 owners experience clutch slipping. The engine revs increase but the car doesn’t accelerate proportionally, especially noticeable on hills.

Main Causes

  • Worn clutch disc – The most common cause.
  • Weak pressure plate – Reduces clamping force.
  • Damaged flywheel – Causes vibrations and slipping.
  • Air in hydraulic system – Affects pedal feel and clutch engagement.

Solutions

  • Replace the full clutch kit (disc, pressure plate, release bearing).
  • Resurface or replace the flywheel if worn.
  • Bleed the hydraulic system and refill with fresh fluid.
